Canadian freestyle skiing star and current Olympic silver medalist, Mikaël Kingsbury, is nearing full recovery from a left groin injury as he readies himself for the World Cup moguls event in Val St-Côme, Quebec. Kingsbury sustained the injury during training four months ago and was forced to withdraw from the men’s small final in Ruka, Finland, last December.
Expressing his progress, Kingsbury mentioned that while he is not yet at 100%, he is pleased with his recovery and aims to compete smartly, prioritizing his ultimate goal of performing well at the upcoming Olympic Games in Milan Cortina next month. With an impressive track record of 99 World Cup victories, Kingsbury will participate in the single moguls event on Friday and assess his health before committing to the dual moguls competition on Saturday.
Having conquered the challenging Val St-Côme course in the past, where he clinched both singles and dual moguls titles last February, Kingsbury feels at home competing there in front of friends and family. The seasoned skier emphasized his familiarity with the course, citing his extensive experience in various conditions that he can leverage to his advantage during the upcoming competition.
Reflecting on his pursuit of 100 career victories, Kingsbury shared his initial skepticism after winning Olympic gold in Pyeongchang in 2018. Despite his doubts, he finds himself on the brink of achieving this milestone, staying motivated by the belief instilled by his mental coach three years ago. Kingsbury’s dedication to his sport and relentless training regimen have propelled him close to reaching this significant achievement.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by his recent injury, Kingsbury highlighted the various treatments he has undergone to aid recovery, including ice therapy, physiotherapy, and red light therapy. Encouraged by his progress in recent weeks, Kingsbury remains focused on regaining his peak performance levels ahead of the Olympic Games, where he aims to inspire young fans and aspiring athletes with his determination and resilience.
As Kingsbury gears up for the upcoming World Cup event in Val St-Côme, he recognizes the significance of his performance not only for personal milestones but also as a source of inspiration for the next generation of athletes. With the Winter Games on the horizon, Kingsbury’s journey to recovery and pursuit of excellence serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his sport and the enduring pursuit of his childhood dreams.
