Alleged ISIS Plotter Arrested in Turkey Before New Year’s

Date:

Turkish authorities announced on Friday the arrest of an alleged ISIS member who was plotting attacks during New Year celebrations. Ibrahim Burtakucin was apprehended in Malatya following a joint operation by police and the National Intelligence Agency. Reports indicate that Burtakucin had connections with ISIS sympathizers both in Turkey and abroad and was seeking opportunities to participate in conflicts.

During the raid at his residence, authorities confiscated digital materials and prohibited ISIS publications. This arrest came after Istanbul’s prosecutor’s office disclosed that over 100 suspected ISIS members were detained in coordinated raids aimed at preventing attacks during holiday festivities. Istanbul police received intelligence suggesting planned attacks targeting non-Muslims, resulting in the capture of 115 out of 137 suspects in raids at 124 locations across the country. Numerous pistols and ammunition were also seized during the operations.
