Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette Returns for World Series

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays have included one of their top hitters in the lineup for the upcoming World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bo Bichette, the shortstop who has been sidelined since September 6 due to a left knee sprain, has been listed on the team’s 26-man roster for the best-of-seven series.

Bichette is set to play at second base and bat in the cleanup position, as confirmed by the Blue Jays just hours before the start of Game 1 at Rogers Centre on Friday night. Alongside Bichette, outfielders Myles Straw and Davis Schneider will also be starting, with Nathan Lukes, Addison Barger, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa available as options off the bench.

In recent days, Bichette has shown improvement by engaging in base running, defensive drills, and continuing his hitting practice in the batting cage. The Blue Jays have also added infielder Ty France to the 26-man roster while removing reliever Yariel Rodriguez and outfielder Joey Loperfido.

During a recent media session, Bichette expressed his readiness to contribute in any way necessary for the team. He showcased progress in his movements during practice, being more at ease compared to his discomfort earlier before the American League Championship Series.

The Blue Jays have opted for a lineup consisting of 14 position players and 12 pitchers for the Fall Classic, deviating from the 13-13 mix used in their previous ALCS victory. Bichette, a two-time American League hits leader, finished the season with a .311 batting average, ranking second to New York’s Aaron Judge.

As Bichette approaches the end of his contract with the Blue Jays, he remains focused on performing to the best of his abilities to assist the team in achieving success. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has made changes to their roster by including right-handers Edgardo Henriquez and Will Klein while excluding lefty Alex Vesia and righty Ben Casparius.

Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young winner, who did not participate in the NL Championship Series, has been included in the World Series roster for the Dodgers despite being left off the wild-card series roster earlier. Kershaw, aged 37, has indicated his intention to retire following the conclusion of this season.
