“Canada-wide Lawsuit Against Rogers for Service Outage Approved”

Date:

Many Canadians recently received a text message regarding a class action lawsuit against Rogers, Fido, and Chatr following a major outage on April 19, 2021. Confirming the legitimacy of the message, attorney David Assor from Lex Group, the legal firm handling the case, stated that a Quebec court has approved a nationwide class action lawsuit against Rogers for the outage.

The lawsuit, led by Assor, alleges that numerous Canadians suffered damages due to the service disruption. Some individuals faced medical risks as they could not access essential services like 9-1-1, while others, such as delivery drivers reliant on their phones for work, experienced income loss.

Rogers mentioned that it had already compensated affected customers for the day without service and expressed readiness to defend the case. Canadians receiving the text do not need to take immediate action. The message includes a link for additional information and updates, with registration for email notifications rather than participation in the class action.

The court order required Rogers to provide a list of affected phone numbers, enabling a court-appointed administrator to send out the text messages. Legal fees will be covered by awarded damages or by Rogers, depending on the court’s decision.

In case of a successful class action, affected individuals may receive compensation, potentially including refunds on service fees and other compensatory damages. Assor advised retaining documentation of losses, such as receipts, for potential claims. The duration of the lawsuit is estimated at two to three years, although actual timelines may vary.

While the current lawsuit encompasses all of Canada, Rogers is reportedly seeking to exclude certain provinces from the proceedings. The case is advancing, and affected individuals can stay updated on Lex Group’s website.
