After securing an Olympic spot, Canadian ski cross athlete Courtney Hoffos didn’t hold back despite facing her second Winter Games in February.
In an Instagram post on Monday, she expressed her determination to compete fiercely in every race, even though she could have chosen a safer path.
Unfortunately, Hoffos will not be competing in the Milan-Cortina Winter Games due to a knee injury sustained during a recent World Cup event in Arosa, Switzerland.
Joining Hoffos in missing the Olympics are two other Canadian athletes, ski cross racer India Sherret and snowboarder Liam Brearley, both sidelined by injuries.
Hoffos underwent surgery to repair her tibial plateau, medial collateral ligament, and meniscus. The tibial plateau refers to the flat top surface of the shin bone, while the meniscus is a rubbery cartilage in the knee that provides cushioning between the thigh and shin bones.
“I’m thankful for the support of my team, family, and the medical staff in Chur, Switzerland,” she shared. “Now, my focus is on recovery, spending Christmas with my family, and cherishing the small joys in life.”
Courtney Hoffos, the 2025 world championship silver medallist from Windermere, B.C., will miss the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics following a crash in Arosa, Switzerland, on Dec. 16 during a World Cup competition.
A silver medal at the World Cup season opener in Val Thorens, France, secured Hoffos a place at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games.
Despite her recent injury, Hoffos had a strong previous season, finishing seventh in the 2024-25 World Cup standings with three silver and two bronze medals, in addition to a silver at the world championships.
