British authorities announced on Tuesday that Russell Brand, a well-known comedian and actor, faces additional legal charges of rape and sexual assault. These new accusations, sanctioned by the Crown Prosecution Service, involve two women and come after a previous set of charges in April, which included two counts of rape, one of indecent assault, and two of sexual assault spanning over two decades.
Brand, aged 50, is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026, to address the fresh charges. A trial related to the initial charges is slated to commence at Southwark Crown Court on June 16, 2026. Despite attempts by Reuters to contact Brand for his response, no statement has been obtained.
In May, Brand entered a plea of not guilty to the original five accusations. Once recognized as a prominent broadcaster in the UK and previously married to American pop star Katy Perry, Brand has vehemently denied any involvement in non-consensual sexual acts.
Following the initial charges in April, Brand expressed on X that although he may have been foolish in his youth, he adamantly refuted being labeled a rapist or engaging in non-consensual activities. In recent years, the actor has transitioned into social commentary and hosted a program on the contentious video-sharing platform Rumble, which prides itself on being impervious to cancel culture.
The investigation first commenced in September 2023 following allegations surfaced by Channel 4 TV’s Dispatches program and the Sunday Times newspaper.
