Global fashion icons, including renowned designers and celebrities, gathered on Friday morning in Rome to pay their final respects to the legendary fashion designer Valentino at his funeral service held at the central Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. The funeral followed a two-day public viewing at the Valentino Foundation’s headquarters in Rome, offering a final tribute to the designer.
Prominent figures from the fashion industry such as Tom Ford, Donatella Versace, and Anna Wintour, alongside Hollywood stars like Anne Hathaway, attended the funeral service. Fans and admirers also congregated outside the church, some donning red attire or accessories in homage to Valentino’s signature color.
Valentino Garavani, who passed away at the age of 93 in his Rome residence, was beloved by generations of royals, first ladies, and celebrities like Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Julia Roberts, who praised his ability to make them look and feel exceptional. Known as the “last emperor” of Italian fashion, Valentino maintained his atelier in Rome while showcasing his collections mainly in Paris.
During the public viewing, hundreds of individuals paid their respects to the iconic designer. Valentino’s exquisite gowns have graced numerous prestigious events, including the Academy Awards, where stars like Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett shone in his creations.
In a moving remembrance speech, Giancarlo Giammetti, Valentino’s longtime partner, expressed gratitude to the designer for imparting a sense of beauty and shared memories of their journey together. The legacy of Valentino, as a pioneer in the world of fashion, continues to inspire and influence the industry.
