“Files with Trump-Epstein Photo Mysteriously Vanish”

Date:

At least 16 files have vanished from the U.S. Justice Department’s public website containing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, including a picture featuring U.S. President Donald Trump. The disappearance occurred within a day of the files being uploaded, without any official explanation or public notification.

Among the missing files, which were accessible on Friday but inaccessible by Saturday, were images portraying nude women and one displaying a sequence of photos placed on a credenza and inside drawers. In one of the images, a photograph of Trump, along with Epstein, Melania Trump, and Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell, was found inside a drawer among other photos.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) did not disclose the reason behind the removal of the files or confirm if it was intentional. A department spokesperson did not respond immediately to requests for comments. The sudden disappearance of these files online has sparked speculation and heightened existing curiosity surrounding Epstein and the influential individuals connected to him.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee raised concerns about the missing Trump-related image, questioning the transparency and raising suspicions about potential cover-ups. The vanishing files have intensified worries stemming from the DOJ’s recent document release.

The released documents on Friday, consisting of thousands of pages, did not provide significant new insights into Epstein’s crimes or the legal decisions that enabled him to evade serious federal charges for an extended period. Notably absent were FBI interviews with survivors and internal DOJ memos exploring charging determinations, crucial records that could have shed light on investigative perspectives and the reasoning behind Epstein’s lenient 2008 plea deal.

Under a recent congressional mandate, the released records barely mention prominent figures linked to Epstein, such as Britain’s former prince Andrew, prompting doubts about the thoroughness of the scrutiny and the extent of public accountability advancements. The documents did reveal details about the DOJ’s decision to halt an investigation into Epstein in the 2000s, leading to his plea deal, and a 1996 complaint accusing Epstein of stealing children’s photographs.

The disclosed files predominantly feature images of Epstein’s properties in New York City and the U.S. Virgin Islands, including some photos of celebrities and politicians. However, the clarity and context of many images remain uncertain, and mere inclusion in the Epstein files does not imply misconduct or culpability.

The DOJ, acknowledging challenges in safeguarding victims’ identities due to the extensive information volume, emphasized making reasonable efforts to protect personal details. Despite a congressional deadline for full disclosure by Friday, the DOJ plans to release records gradually, citing the meticulous process of redacting sensitive information as the cause for delays.

While the department did not specify when additional records might be released, the incremental approach has drawn criticism from Epstein accusers and lawmakers who championed the legislation mandating the DOJ’s transparency.
