“Indian Comedian’s Cafe Targeted In Surrey Gun Violence”

Date:

Surrey police reported that Kap’s Cafe, owned by Indian comedian and TV host Kapil Sharma, was once again the target of gun violence in the Newton area of the city. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. PT, with bullets damaging the cafe for the third time this year.

Fortunately, no one was hurt during the shooting, as confirmed by the Surrey Police Service (SPS). While the police have not officially confirmed the motive behind the attack, it is believed to be linked to extortion activities. SPS spokesperson Ian MacDonald mentioned that the department, along with the Provincial Extortion Task Force, is investigating the previous shootings at Kap’s.

The cafe first experienced a shooting incident in July and was hit a second time in August. MacDonald highlighted that there is a video circulating online showing multiple gunshots fired at the cafe from a vehicle. Additionally, individuals claiming association with the Bishnoi gang have taken credit for the latest attack.

The ongoing violence has raised concerns in the community, with local residents expressing sadness over the repeated targeting of Kap’s Cafe. Despite the incidents, businesses in the area, like Brown Blendz Barbershop, continue to operate, considering such shootings as a “new normal” in the city.

The police investigation into the extortion-related cases and shootings in Surrey has intensified, with a total of 65 extortion incidents and 35 connected shootings reported so far this year. The majority of these cases have affected individuals and businesses within South Asian communities, facing extortion demands through various means.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the recent shooting at Kap’s Cafe to contact the SPS non-emergency line or Crime Stoppers. The community is encouraged to come forward with any dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist in the investigation.
