Tyler McGregor netted a hat trick to lead Canada to a strong 7-0 victory over China in the opening match of the 2025 Para Cup held in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Liam Hickey contributed two goals, including a short-handed one, with Dominic Cozzolino and Micah Kovacevich also finding the net for the Canadian team.

Expressing his satisfaction with the team’s performance, McGregor praised their impressive start and physical engagement early in the game, allowing them to take an early lead. He highlighted the significance of scoring two short-handed goals in the first period and commended the team for maintaining their momentum throughout the match.

In a standout performance, Corbin Watson made nine saves to secure a shutout at the Ovintiv Events Centre and marked a historic milestone as the first goalie to reach 100 appearances for Canada’s national Para hockey team. Reflecting on his achievement, Watson expressed gratitude for his long-standing association with the team and the program, emphasizing the personal significance of the milestone.

The United States also emerged victorious on Sunday, defeating the Czech Republic 3-1 in the four-team tournament. Canada’s next challenge will be against the Czech team on Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time.
