In a recent blog post, the veteran artist revealed his decision to grant residents of Denmark’s semiautonomous territory the opportunity to enjoy his music and music films to alleviate the stress caused by current political tensions involving the U.S. and NATO.
Young expressed his hope that his music would provide solace to the Greenlandic population, referring to the move as an offer of “Peace and Love.” The offer, initially available for a year with the possibility of renewal, requires applicants to possess a Greenland-based mobile phone to access the music in its highest quality.
This act of generosity contrasts sharply with Young’s recent stance against the Amazon Music platform, where he made his music unavailable as a protest against the platform’s owner, Jeff Bezos, a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump. Young’s disapproval of Bezos’ political affiliations and policies led him to urge fans to boycott Amazon.
Not new to controversies with streaming services, Young has previously withdrawn his music from Spotify over concerns about audio quality and Joe Rogan’s discussions on COVID-19 vaccines. Despite his reservations, Young’s music is now back on Spotify and Apple Music, where fans can still enjoy his iconic hits like “Rockin’ in the Free World” and “Heart of Gold.”
Young’s manager and Amazon Music representatives have not yet commented on these developments. The artist’s ongoing efforts to control the distribution of his music reflect his unwavering commitment to his principles and artistic integrity.
