In the heyday of the TV show “Friends,” Matthew Perry’s portrayal of Chandler Bing captivated audiences. However, following his tragic passing in 2023, fans grappled with the news of his ketamine addiction, which contrasted with the beloved character he played on screen.
To provide a more comprehensive view of the late Canadian actor, Netflix has announced a three-part documentary series titled “The One About Matthew Perry.” The series aims to chronicle Perry’s evolution from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the popular NBC sitcom. It will feature exclusive insights from Perry’s inner circle, including his sister Mia Perry Bowick, a grief specialist who has openly discussed her journey of mourning after his death.
Bowick expressed her readiness to share intimate memories of her brother, highlighting his multidimensional personality beyond his on-screen persona and struggles with addiction. Perry tragically passed away at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to charges related to providing him with the substance, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia appealing his 30-month prison sentence for selling ketamine to Perry.
Netflix has promised that the documentary will not only delve into Perry’s life through the eyes of his loved ones but also reveal new insights into his personal battles, honoring his legacy of transparency and advocacy. The highly anticipated docuseries is set to premiere on October 27.
