During the holiday season, reminiscing about the events of the past year often brings sentimental feelings. Reflecting on sports, one can’t help but feel nostalgic too, to borrow a line from one of my beloved films.

January: Philly special

Saquon Barkley’s remarkable performance, rushing for 205 yards and scoring two long touchdowns, including a 78-yard run in the playoffs, propelled the Philadelphia Eagles to victory over the Los Angeles Rams and later a dominating Super Bowl win against Kansas City.
February: Elbows up

Amidst trade tensions, Brandon Hagel ignited Canadian pride by engaging in a brawl with U.S. star Matthew Tkachuk during an intense 4 Nations Face-Off game in Montreal, where Canada later avenged their loss in the final against the United States.
March: Alexander the great

Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals marked a significant goal against Philadelphia, closing in on Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record. Ovechkin later surpassed Gretzky’s record and continued his milestone streak with more goals in the season.
April: Masterstroke

Rory McIlroy clinched victory in a playoff against Justin Rose at Augusta to secure his first green jacket, completing a prestigious career Grand Slam. His success continued as he aided Europe in retaining the Ryder Cup later in the year.
May: The Cats came back

Forward Carter Verhaeghe of the Panthers delivered a critical overtime goal against Toronto, sparking a comeback that led Florida to victory in the Stanley Cup final.
