The Bloc Québécois candidate, Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné, will once again compete against Liberal Tatiana Auguste in the Terrebonne riding following the recent invalidation of last year’s election result by the Supreme Court. Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet introduced Sinclair-Desgagné as their candidate, praising her unwavering determination. Meanwhile, the Liberals officially selected Auguste as their candidate for the Montreal-area riding.
During the April 28 federal election, Elections Canada initially declared Auguste the winner by a single vote over Sinclair-Desgagné. However, Sinclair-Desgagné contested the outcome after one of her supporters raised concerns about a special ballot not being counted. The Supreme Court ruled in Sinclair-Desgagné’s favor on February 13.
With the Liberal Party three seats away from a majority government, Terrebonne is among the three ridings set for a byelection in the upcoming months. Prime Minister Mark Carney has yet to announce the dates for the byelections in Terrebonne and the two vacant Toronto ridings.
