“New Images of Ontario Restaurateur’s Accused Killers Revealed”

Date:

An upcoming extradition hearing in Scotland for the individuals accused in the tragic death of a restaurateur in southwestern Ontario in August 2023 is expected to shed new light, as per a recent CBC News investigation. The investigation revealed fresh images of the three suspects involved in the killing of Sharif Rahman in Owen Sound. These images were obtained after CBC gained access to Scottish court records and utilized information provided by Canadian law enforcement in affidavits to uncover their social media profiles.

Previously, the only visual references of the accused individuals in Rahman’s demise were low-quality police handout photos. These images depicted two individuals, one in a blue T-shirt and the other in orange, seen running down the main street of Owen Sound captured by a security camera. Additionally, a photo of a grey Ford Escape, the vehicle used for their escape, was also included.

In December 2024, authorities announced the arrest of three individuals in Edinburgh, with limited details provided beyond their names and ages. The accused individuals, identified as Robert Evans (25), his father Robert Busby Evans (47), and uncle Barry Evans (54), face charges ranging from manslaughter to being accessories after the fact. They are currently in custody in Scotland awaiting the extradition hearing scheduled to commence on October 20 at the request of Canada.

Through the CBC News investigation, images of the accused trio were unveiled by tracking their social media profiles, verifying their identities through geolocation of photos, family connections, and cross-referencing personal details such as birthdays and vacations. These newly discovered images provide additional insights into the suspects’ activities in Canada and their return to the UK.

None of the accused individuals have entered a plea, and the allegations against them remain untested in court. CBC News attempted to reach out to their legal representatives and immediate families for comments but received no responses.

Rahman’s tragic death occurred at a hospital in London, Ontario, a week after he was found gravely injured outside his restaurant, The Curry House. Allegedly, a group of patrons attempted to leave without paying their bill, leading to a confrontation outside the restaurant. According to witness statements, Robert Evans Jr. delivered the fatal blow that caused Rahman’s head to strike the pavement, resulting in severe injuries.

Barry Evans, the uncle, faces charges for aiding Evans Jr. in fleeing the scene and driving him to Collingwood, while Robert Evans Sr. is accused of facilitating his son’s escape by purchasing an airline ticket and arranging transportation to the airport. The suspects entered Canada using fake names on valid UK passports and engaged in a cash-only business venture during their stay in the country.

The investigation also highlighted the challenges in the extradition process, with legal experts emphasizing the complexities involved in extraditing individuals from another country. Despite the passage of time since the arrests, the community in Owen Sound continues to mourn Rahman’s loss, with his widow expressing faith in the pursuit of justice for her late husband.
