Alpine Canada has introduced its lineup for the upcoming 2025/26 season, showcasing a talented and decorated teenage athlete who has recently made his mark with the FIS. Among the roster of athletes listed alphabetically by first name from various regions in Canada, one standout newcomer stands out: Samuel Peters, a 17-year-old Para skier hailing from Kelowna.
Peters’ journey to becoming the youngest member of the team and a formidable podium contender didn’t commence on the slopes but rather at a young age of six when he was offered the opportunity to try sit-skiing while out shopping with his mother. Embracing the chance presented by the Powderhounds Adaptive Program at Big White Ski Resort, Peters gradually developed his skills in sit-skiing under the guidance of coach Sarah Morris-Probert.
Transitioning into ski racing with the Big White Ski Club, Peters honed his competitive edge and was eventually selected to represent Canada alongside Finley Cashin in Ski Cross. Despite his youth, Peters has shown remarkable composure and determination, making a name for himself on the international stage with impressive performances in slalom, giant slalom, and super-G events.
With a string of victories at FIS International Para Competitions, Peters has demonstrated his speed and skill, securing multiple podium finishes, including four gold medals in a span of just two months. Undaunted by the experienced competitors he faces, Peters remains focused on his goals, training rigorously for the upcoming season with the aim of clinching more accolades.
Following a strong showing at the Southern Hemisphere Cup in Chile, Peters is gearing up for the next challenge in Resterhoehe, Austria, armed with a new high-performance Tessier sit-skiing rig that promises to enhance his performance on the slopes. Looking ahead to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics, Peters is optimistic about his prospects and aims to leverage his experiences to propel him towards future success.
With an eye on the long-term goal of competing in future Paralympic Games, Peters is committed to his journey in the sport, viewing each competition as a stepping stone towards greater achievements. As he sets his sights on Milano Cortina and beyond, Peters remains steadfast in his determination to make a lasting impact in the world of Para alpine skiing.
