“Edmonton Teen Faces Terrorism Charges Linked to Online Extremism Network”

Date:

A teenager hailing from the Edmonton region is facing fresh charges following the issuance of a terrorism peace bond due to suspected ties to an online network promoting violent extremism. Initially apprehended in May, the 15-year-old had peace bond proceedings initiated by the RCMP based on concerns of terrorism-related activities.

Authorities expressed their belief that the youth was inclined towards committing terrorism-related acts associated with the 764 online network. This network targets vulnerable youngsters through gaming platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox, enticing victims into private online conversations. The RCMP stated that the 764 network encourages youth to engage in sexual acts, self-harm, and animal torture. Moreover, elements of the network are known to possess extreme ideological views, desensitizing and radicalizing children towards violence.

A recent police announcement linked the escalation of charges to an incident in February 2025. A peace bond allows for the monitoring of individuals showing potential signs of criminal behavior in the absence of concrete evidence of an actual offense. The latest charges against the teenager, as revealed through a forensic examination of electronic devices, include involvement in a terrorist group’s activities, promotion of hatred, making threats, and possession of child sexual abuse material.

While the police have not disclosed additional details about the adolescent, CBC News has confirmed his gender as male from previous court appearances. The teenager remains detained at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre and is set to make a court appearance on Friday.
