The search for a missing aircraft that was en route from Canada’s East Coast to Greenland has entered its second day. Naviair, a state-owned Danish aviation service provider, received a report at approximately 4 p.m. local time on Saturday indicating that a single-engine plane had disappeared. On Sunday, Naviair confirmed that the missing aircraft is registered under an American company and was flying from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., with a sole occupant.
Search operations resumed on Sunday via boat, as aerial searches were hindered by low-hanging clouds. Search efforts were halted on Saturday evening due to poor visibility and adverse weather conditions. Recovery teams are focusing their efforts on the Sermitsiaq mountain area, located 15 kilometers northeast of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay, situated in central Labrador, is approximately 850 kilometers northwest of St. John’s, with the Labrador Sea separating Labrador from Greenland.
