Renowned Romance Writer Carley Fortune Announces “Only in Summer”

Date:

Carley Fortune, a renowned romance writer, has revealed the upcoming release of her sixth novel, “Only in Summer,” scheduled for May 18, 2027. The book will revisit the familiar setting of Barry’s Bay, Ont., which was featured in her previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and is also her hometown.

Fortune shared in a newsletter that she recently purchased a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling her long-held dream since the sale of her family’s lakeside home. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, shares a similar aspiration as she aims to acquire a property in Barry’s Bay, where she spent her childhood. However, Ellie faces a surprise when the neighboring house is demolished to make way for a grand mansion owned by a striking newcomer.

While specific plot details are scarce, it is hinted that a hesitant romance may blossom against the backdrop of the lakeside locale. Carley Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a rich editorial background with notable contributions to Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her earlier works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, endorsed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. Additionally, “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is set to transform “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode TV production.
