Trick-or-treaters in Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) are facing a change in plans as Environment Canada has issued a special weather advisory predicting heavy rain and strong winds hitting the Island on Friday. Due to this forecast, Charlottetown, Cornwall, and Stratford have jointly announced the postponement of Halloween activities to Saturday for safety reasons.
Summerside has also rescheduled trick-or-treating to Saturday, maintaining an 8 p.m. curfew for safety measures. Corey Frizzell, the town councillor and chair of municipal and emergency services for Cornwall, emphasized caution, stating that the expected weather conditions warrant a prudent approach.
Residents like Danielle Jesso and Warren Grove’s mayor, Noémie Wheatley, have supported the decision to prioritize children’s safety and enjoyment. Jesso plans to take her daughter, Chloe, for her first trick-or-treating experience on Saturday, dressed as a character from “Monsters, Inc.”
According to Environment Canada, the heaviest rainfall is expected on Friday afternoon, with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour and possible rainfall of 30 to 40 millimeters. CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland advised that while Friday evening may see some improvement, Saturday will be cooler and possibly windier with scattered showers.
The weather conditions are influenced by Hurricane Melissa, which recently affected Caribbean countries. Islanders are urged to prepare by clearing storm drains and securing outdoor items. Some communities in P.E.I. are proceeding with Friday’s activities, while others have rescheduled to Saturday. Residents are advised to confirm plans with their local municipal council.
