Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Davis Cup Finals

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz will not participate in the Davis Cup Finals in Italy due to a hamstring injury, extending his wait to lead Spain to victory in the tournament. The top-seeded Alcaraz expressed disappointment as he announced his withdrawal on Tuesday, following medical advice regarding his right hamstring edema sustained during the ATP Finals last week. Alcaraz, who holds a 6-2 Davis Cup record, emphasized his love for representing Spain and his eagerness to contribute to their Davis Cup campaign.

Despite missing the upcoming Davis Cup event, Alcaraz reassured reporters during a promotional video call for upcoming exhibition matches that he remains unconcerned about the long-term implications of his current leg injury. The 22-year-old, known for clinching the year-end No. 1 ranking, intends to undergo daily treatment and exercises to expedite his recovery.

Alcaraz, who captured the French Open and U.S. Open titles this year, has set his sights on claiming the Davis Cup title in the future, considering it a prestigious tournament. Although his absence in the quarterfinal match against the Czech Republic’s formidable team, featuring Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, is a setback, Alcaraz remains determined to return stronger. Spain’s last Davis Cup triumph dates back to 2019, and Alcaraz’s aspiration to lead his country to victory remains unwavering.
