Dara Greig is demonstrating progress in her performance on the ice. Greig notched her first goal in the Professional Women’s Hockey League early in the second period and also contributed an assist in Montreal Victoire’s 4-2 victory over Vancouver Goldeneyes at the Pacific Coliseum on Saturday.
“I feel good about it,” said Greig, who recorded three assists in 29 games with Montreal in her debut season last year. “I believe I’ve improved during the off-season. I aimed to have a more significant offensive impact this year. It was satisfying to score one.”
Greig’s goal came after capitalizing on a turnover just 108 seconds into the second period. Hayley Scamurra intercepted a clearing pass at the Vancouver blue line, shooting it towards Greig, who redirected the puck into the net.
In the third period, Greig earned her first assist of the season as Shiann Darkangelo extended Montreal’s lead to 4-2. Marie-Philip Poulin and Natalie Mlynkova also found the back of the net for Montreal, propelling them to second place in the PWHL standings with 11 points.
Vancouver, who was previously tied for second place, saw goals from Sophie Jaques and Michela Cava in the match. The defeat marked their first loss on home ice in front of a crowd of 12,127 at the Pacific Coliseum.
Montreal’s goalkeeper, Sandra Abstreiter, made an impressive 28 saves in her season debut, while Vancouver’s Emerance Maschmeyer stopped 24 shots.
Born in Camden, N.J., Greig had a successful collegiate career, recording 62 goals and 70 assists in 174 games split between Wisconsin and Colgate. Victoire’s head coach, Kori Cheverie, commended Greig’s scoring ability and physical presence since being drafted in 2024.
Besides her goal and assist, Greig showcased her versatility by logging substantial ice time, delivering hits, and contributing defensively. Her teammate Poulin praised Greig’s aggressive style of play and noted her growth since last season.
Cheverie highlighted Greig’s adaptability in various game situations, emphasizing her importance in critical moments. Greig’s performance in the recent game was seen as a significant step in her development.
Greig’s younger brother, Ridly, plays as a center for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. The siblings maintain a close relationship, with Greig expressing gratitude for her brother’s support and looking forward to spending time together during the upcoming Christmas holiday.
