Israeli Attacks in Gaza Kill 11 Palestinians

Date:

Israeli military actions resulted in the deaths of 11 Palestinians, including two children and three journalists, in separate incidents in Gaza on Wednesday, as reported by local medics. This violence has significantly impacted a three-month-old ceasefire in the war-ravaged region.

According to Palestinian health officials, three Palestinian journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike while on assignment to film a displaced persons camp in central Gaza. Additionally, three individuals, including a 10-year-old boy, were killed by Israeli tank shelling, and two others, one being a 13-year-old boy, were killed in shooting incidents in Khan Younis in the south, as reported by medics.

The Gaza Health Ministry stated that a total of 11 Palestinians lost their lives in various Israeli attacks throughout the day. In response to the incident involving the journalists, the Israeli military stated that the troops targeted individuals suspected of operating a drone associated with Hamas in central Gaza.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate mentioned that the journalists killed were documenting the plight of civilians in displacement camps on a humanitarian mission. The journalists’ work, reportedly sponsored by the Egyptian Committee overseeing relief efforts in Gaza, did not clarify if they were using a drone during their filming.

Emad Abu Shawish, a freelance journalist present at the scene, criticized the lack of warning before the journalists were targeted by the Israeli strike. The Committee to Protect Journalists highlighted that over 200 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since the conflict began in October 2023, with discrepancies on the exact numbers between different sources.

The incidents have further strained the fragile ceasefire established in October, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of breaching the agreement. The ceasefire’s future phases, involving disarmament, military withdrawal, and reconstruction, are yet to be implemented as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated that Hamas had cooperated in sharing information on the last Israeli hostage’s body but faced challenges due to alleged Israeli military interference. The ongoing clashes have resulted in numerous casualties, with the conflict intensifying after Hamas initiated a cross-border attack in 2023, leading to significant loss of life on both sides.
