Kansas City’s professional football team acknowledged on Wednesday evening that they were informed of allegations of domestic violence detailed in a series of social media posts by a former partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice. The team confirmed they had been in contact with the NFL regarding the matter.
While the team’s statement did not mention Rice by name, they indicated that they would refrain from providing further comments at this moment. The ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Nichole Jones, also refrained from explicitly naming Rice in her Instagram posts earlier in the day, sharing photos suggesting signs of physical abuse. Jones identified the individual involved as the father of her children, with whom she shares two kids. Rice, selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 draft, was the individual in question.
Despite Jones’ claims of abuse in Overland Park, Kansas, no corresponding police reports were accessible. Rice had previously served a suspension at the start of the season following his involvement in a Dallas highway accident during the 2024 offseason. In a legal case, Rice pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges and received a jail term and probation. The footballer concluded the season with notable stats, although Kansas City’s overall performance fell short, missing the playoffs for the first time in ten years.
