Kristýna Kaltounkova netted two goals and Kayle Osborne secured a 31-save shutout as the New York Sirens triumphed over the Sceptres with a 2-0 win in Toronto during the latest Professional Women’s Hockey League match on Tuesday.
The victory propelled New York’s impressive winning streak to four consecutive games, maintaining their strong performance at 6-0-0-5. On the other hand, Toronto, with Elaine Chuli making 20 saves, faced a setback with their losing streak extending to three games, standing at 4-0-3-4.
Kaltounkova’s first goal came early in the second period, as she redirected a point shot from Jincy Roese at 2:50. Despite missing a penalty shot opportunity shortly after due to a post hit, Kaltounkova sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final moments of the game.
In a game marked by limited scoring chances, the Sirens capitalized on a crucial opportunity, edging out the Sceptres. With this win, New York moved up to the second spot in the PWHL standings, trailing the Boston Fleet by just one point.
The pivotal moment of the match came with Kaltounkova’s goal, providing New York with the necessary cushion to secure the victory over Toronto.
A noteworthy statistical highlight was Daryl Watts entering the game on a five-game point streak, including four goals and two assists. Watts’ performance was close to matching Sarah Fillier’s league record from the previous season.
Looking ahead, the Sirens are set to host the Minnesota Frost on January 16, while the Sceptres will visit the Boston Fleet on January 14.
