The Las Vegas Raiders have terminated Pete Carroll’s contract after just one season. Despite high expectations, the Raiders concluded the season with a 3-14 record, enduring a 10-game losing streak. The team managed to end on a positive note with a victory over Kansas City on Sunday. Owner Mark Davis and minority owner Tom Brady will collaborate with general manager John Spytek to search for a new head coach. The team is considering hiring an offensive-minded coach to mentor their young quarterback.
Carroll, aged 74, was the oldest head coach in the NFL and had previously guided the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory. In Arizona, the Cardinals dismissed coach Jonathan Gannon after a disappointing third season marred by injuries, errors, and a series of noncompetitive losses. The season’s culmination was a 37-20 defeat by the Los Angeles Rams, marking the Cardinals’ ninth consecutive loss and 14th defeat in 15 games.
The Cleveland Browns have relieved coach Kevin Stefanski of his duties after six seasons. Stefanski becomes the fourth NFL coach to be sacked this season, following Tennessee’s Brian Callahan, the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll, and Atlanta’s Raheem Morris. The Browns wrapped up their season with a 5-12 record, winning their final two games, including a 20-18 triumph over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
Stefanski, a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year, led the Browns to playoff appearances in 2020 and 2023. Since the franchise’s acquisition by owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam in 2012, Stefanski is the sixth coach to be fired. The Browns have struggled with a 73-139-1 regular-season record since 2013.
Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank communicated to fans via a letter on Monday about the dismissals of coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. Blank hinted at additional forthcoming changes aimed at ending the team’s streak of eight consecutive losing seasons. The Falcons are planning upper management alterations, including appointing a new president of football operations from outside the organization.
The new president will report directly to Blank and will replace Greg Beadles as the head of football operations. Beadles assumes the role of president and CEO of the Falcons, overseeing the business aspects. Beadles takes over from Rich McKay in his new position, while McKay continues as CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment, managing responsibilities such as Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s involvement in this year’s World Cup and preparations for Atlanta’s 2028 Super Bowl.
The firings of Morris and Fontenot were announced following the Falcons’ 19-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Under Morris, the Falcons closed out their second consecutive 8-9 season with four consecutive wins but have not had a winning season or playoff appearance since 2017.
