Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni emerged victorious over Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa with a commanding 7-1 win in the women’s final held at the HearingLife Canadian Open in Saskatoon on Sunday. Tirinzoni swiftly took a 2-0 lead in the first end, which was narrowed to just one point by Fujisawa in the second end. Following a scoreless third end, Tirinzoni’s team secured five points across the next three ends, including a triple in the sixth end.
Tirinzoni, seeded second, secured her spot in the final after defeating Japan’s Sayaka Yoshimura 5-4 in the semifinals on Saturday. On the other hand, the 10th-seeded Fujisawa first eliminated top-ranked Rachel Homan of Ottawa in the quarterfinals before triumphing over Momoha Tabata of Japan with a score of 7-5 in the semifinals.
In the men’s final on the same day, Yannick Schwaller from Switzerland surged ahead by scoring four points in the fifth end, establishing a solid 6-2 lead over Ross Whyte from Scotland. Whyte managed to score only one point in the sixth end, leading to the conclusion of the match with handshakes exchanged.
Schwaller’s path to victory included a 7-5 win over John Shuster of Duluth, Minn., in the semifinals held on Saturday night. On the other side, Whyte secured his spot in the final by defeating Bruce Mouat of Scotland with a score of 6-4 in the other semifinal match.
