Date:

Susanna Tapani netted the decisive goal with 9:40 left on the clock, leading the Boston Fleet to a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Sceptres in Professional Women’s Hockey League play on Saturday. Abby Newhook and Alina Mueller also found the back of the net for Boston (2-0-0-0). Aerin Frankel made 24 saves in the winning effort.

Blayre Turnbull scored the lone goal for Toronto (1-0-0-1), with Raygan Kirk stopping 10 shots. Coach Ryan expressed the need for offensive improvement and emphasized the importance of maintaining composure and offensive participation.

Turnbull opened the scoring for Toronto with a short-handed goal in the first period. Newhook tied the game in the second period after a determined play, and Tapani secured the win in the third period. Despite Toronto’s possession dominance, they struggled to convert chances.

Toronto missed star player Daryl Watts due to injury, affecting their offensive dynamics. The Sceptres’ power play, previously strong, went 0-for-6 in the game. The Fleet’s defensive resilience limited Boston’s offensive output, with the team managing only 12 shots on goal.

The Sceptres’ next challenge is against the Ottawa Charge, while the Fleet will face the Vancouver Goldeneyes in their upcoming games. In another match, the Goldeneyes were defeated 5-1 by the New York Sirens, with five different players scoring for the visiting team. Vancouver will play Boston next, and New York will face Seattle in their next game.
