Grab your favorite summer drink and head to the waterfront because a Canadian version of the popular reality show, “Summer House,” is in the works. Hayu, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, and Lark Productions from British Columbia have teamed up to produce “Summer House Canada” in the beautiful Muskoka region. This marks the first international adaptation of the hit reality series.
According to Hendrik McDermott, NBCUniversal’s managing director for international DTC, Muskoka provides the ideal Canadian backdrop to launch “Summer House Canada” and continue the show’s success. Similar to the original U.S. format, the Canadian version will revolve around a group of friends spending weekends at a shared cottage, where relationships and drama take center stage.
Erin Haskett, president of Lark Productions, expressed excitement about bringing the beloved global franchise to Canada, highlighting the show’s focus on authentic friendships and memorable summer experiences. Lark Productions, known for shows like “The Real Housewives of Toronto” and “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent,” is looking forward to adding “Summer House Canada” to its portfolio.
“Summer House Canada” joins a lineup of Canadian reality TV adaptations, including “Canada Shore” and the upcoming return of “Big Brother Canada.” The Canadian version will consist of 10 episodes exclusively available for streaming on Hayu, with casting details to be announced in the upcoming months. The series is set to debut in 2027.
The announcement of “Summer House Canada” follows the U.S. version receiving its first Emmy nomination after ten seasons. The recent season of the show made headlines due to drama among cast members, including secret relationships that caused turmoil within the group. The Canadian adaptation aims to capture the essence of the original series while adding a unique Canadian twist for viewers to enjoy.
