Rookie Sarah Wozniewicz clinched her debut goal in overtime with just 65 seconds remaining, propelling the Ottawa Charge to a thrilling 3-2 triumph over the two-time defending champions, the Minnesota Frost. The game took place at Allstate Arena, part of the PWHL’s ongoing Takeover Tour.
Wozniewicz capitalized on an assist from Peyton Hemp to secure the winning goal for the Charge, scoring at the 3:55 mark during the 5-minute overtime period. Ottawa initially took the lead 1-0 in the first period courtesy of a power-play goal by Ronja Savolainen, with Kateřina Mrázová and Jocelyne Larocque providing the assists.
The Frost managed to equalize the score midway through the second period with Britta Curl-Salemme netting her second goal. Kelly Pannek contributed her fourth assist, and Mae Batherson notched her second assist of the game.
Brianne Jenner extended Ottawa’s lead to 2-1 with her third goal of the season, beating goalie Nicole Hensley with just 4 seconds left in the period. Rory Guilday, a first-round pick, assisted on the power-play goal, with Rebecca Leslie also registering an assist.
In the final period, Batherson, a defender, scored her first career goal to tie the game 2-2 on a power play, with additional assists from Pannek and Kendall Cooper. Goalkeeper Gwyneth Philips made 21 saves for Ottawa, including one in overtime, while Hensley of the Frost made 19 saves, three of which were in the extra period.
