The upcoming women’s slalom race at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics is set to feature an exciting showdown between Mikaela Shiffrin and her Swiss counterpart, Camille Rast. Rast recently halted Shiffrin’s six-race winning streak in World Cup slaloms by edging out the American star with a 0.14-second lead in Slovenia.
As the reigning slalom world champion, Rast has shown impressive form, leading Shiffrin in previous races as well. Despite Shiffrin’s strong performance, Rast maintained her lead in the latest event, securing her fourth career win and third in slalom. Shiffrin acknowledged Rast’s exceptional skiing abilities, noting the intensity of the competition.
Following her victory, Rast dedicated her success to the victims of a recent tragedy in Crans-Montana, showcasing her resilience and determination. The duo dominated the field, with Wendy Holdener finishing third, trailing Rast by a significant 1.83 seconds. Shiffrin’s teammate Paula Moltzan also delivered a commendable performance, securing fourth place.
Shiffrin, a decorated athlete with numerous accolades in slalom, continues to showcase her prowess on the slopes, setting records with 69 wins in slalom and 106 overall victories in the World Cup. The upcoming slalom races promise more thrilling action, with the next event scheduled as a night race in Flachau on Jan. 13.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for downhill and super-G races in Zauchensee next weekend, with no men’s World Cup races taking place during this period. The competition remains fierce as athletes gear up for the Winter Olympics, with each race shaping up to be a test of skill and determination on the slopes.
