American ski star Mikaela Shiffrin narrowly extended her winning streak to secure her sixth consecutive World Cup slalom victory ahead of the 2026 Olympics. Despite her triumph in Austria’s night slalom, Shiffrin expressed concerns over the unsafe race conditions on the Panorama course.
Shiffrin, coming from behind in the first run, overtook Swiss world champion Camille Rast. She criticized the deteriorating course caused by mild weather and the unsuccessful attempts to improve it by injecting water and salt before the race. The challenging conditions led to numerous surface breaks during the afternoon session, affecting many competitors.
Shiffrin emphasized the need for safer and better-prepared race conditions for all athletes. Despite the difficulties, she delivered an exceptional performance in the final run, clinching victory over Rast and young talent Lara Colturi. Shiffrin’s win marked her record-extending 106th career victory and matched her personal best start from the 2018-19 season.
With her latest triumph, Shiffrin widened her lead in the slalom standings over her competitors. The World Cup schedule includes more slaloms leading up to the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, where Shiffrin aims to continue her stellar performance.
In other results, Laurence St-Germain of Canada finished 12th, while Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic, the defending champion, struggled, finishing in eighth place. The women’s World Cup will head to Slovenia for the next event in Kranjska Gora.
