“Vancouver to Host Davis Cup Showdown: Canada vs. Brazil”

Date:

Vancouver has been chosen to host the initial matchup between Canada and Brazil in the Davis Cup Qualifiers, as revealed by Tennis Canada on Thursday. The contest will be held on February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre located on the University of British Columbia campus.

The victor will progress to the second round of qualifiers for the international men’s tournament scheduled for September 2026. Canada, ranked ninth, will face off against Brazil, ranked 18th, with Canada boasting a strong record of winning 10 out of their last 12 ties at home. The two teams last clashed in 2007 at the Group I Americas stage, where Brazil triumphed 3-1 on their home turf.

Canada has secured victories in their last three Davis Cup encounters in Vancouver, notably defeating Spain and Italy in 2013 to reach the semifinals and securing a 3-2 win over Japan in 2015. The team advanced to the 2026 qualifiers after a decisive 4-0 win against Israel in World Group I play in September, a match that was held in Halifax amidst protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

In 2022, Canada clinched their sole Davis Cup title by overcoming Australia in the final. After setbacks in the 2024 quarterfinals against Germany and a loss to Hungary in the 2025 qualifying first round, Canada was relegated to the qualifying pool and subsequently dropped to the World Group 1 level.

The upcoming match in Vancouver promises to be a thrilling encounter as Canada looks to continue their winning streak on home soil.
