Tornado experts have verified that a tornado struck an area close to Kemptville, Ontario, on the previous Sunday. The tornado was spawned during a storm passing through the region, causing damage to vegetation and farmland, as reported by the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) at Western University.
A field survey revealed tree destruction patterns suggesting that the tornado reached peak wind speeds of 115 km/h along a brief, narrow trajectory, researchers confirmed. It is estimated that the tornado originated at 3:45 p.m. and moved 1.18 kilometers to the northeast.
The research team assigned the incident an EF0 rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which is the lowest classification for tornadoes and downbursts, with ratings ranging from EF0 to EF5. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries according to the NTP.
Over that weekend, Environment Canada had issued a yellow-level rainfall warning for eastern Ontario and western Quebec, cautioning that rainfall between 50 and 100 millimeters was expected.
